The Registered Dietitian is the Subject Matter Expert for everything health, wellness and nutrition-related and is responsible for leading the launch, activation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the health and wellness platform for Howard University.

The Registered Dietitian will assist in providing company expertise and insights to inform clients, faculty/staff, parents, and students about the benefits of our partnership, programs, and services, and why we are being recognized as an industry leader in health, wellness, and nutrition.

 

The scope of the role will include responsibilities in three key focus areas: 1. Campus Programming and Education 2. Food & Safety Oversight and 3. Nutrition Consultations. The Registered Dietitian will use collaborative efforts in partnership with the culinary team, marketing team, leadership team, clients, and campus organizations to enhance student experiences, strengthen campus partnerships and build community relations through health and wellness programs and events.

 

COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is $85,000-$95,000. If both numbers are the same, that is the amount that Aramark expects to offer. This is Aramark's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for this position as of the time of posting.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

Campus Programming and Education (30-35%)

  • Supports health and wellness platforms and implementation of programs such as tabling events, food samplings, cooking demos, lunch and learns, health fairs, guest speaker events and other on-campus programming.
  • Works with the Marketing Manager to engage the student population through social media and pop-up events to drive engagement and student satisfaction.
  • Works with the Marketing Manager to support meal plan sales by assisting students with choosing the meal plan that works best for their personal dietary needs and campus housing location and accommodations.
  • Supports peer-to-peer programming and student interns as needed; may serve as a preceptor to mentor dietetic interns assigned as part of an accredited on- or off-site dietetic internship program.
  • Supports contract retention efforts and client relations.
  • Stays current and up-to-date on dining, nutrition and sustainability practices and trends.
  • Reviews local customer satisfaction survey scores and other program-related data to ensure program initiatives are meeting student and campus needs.
  • Collaborates with campus organizations on event and program planning; serve as a liaison between dining services and community partners; may serve on campus and/or community advisory boards.

 

Food and Safety Oversight (30-35%)

  • Oversees compliance for the United States Food and Drug Administration menu labeling laws as it relates to recipe and menu board signage in on-campus residential and proprietary retail locations, C-stores, and catering (print and digital menus).
  • May use nutrition analysis software to analyze ingredients, products and recipes for localized menus and grab-n-go items to ensure labeling information is compliant with the U.S. FDA menu labeling laws.
  • Partners with the culinary team in supporting menu planning and development for multiple locations including residential, retail and catering.
  • Assists the culinary team in understanding special dietary needs including dietary restrictions related to food allergies or intolerances, and lifestyle diets due to personal preferences or religious reasons.
  • Works with the culinary team to ensure student’s dietary needs are being accommodated and arranges for specially prepared meals, purchase of prepackaged foods or sourcing special requests when the daily menu offerings do not meet the needs.
  • Works collaboratively with the culinary team to ensure that proper safety measures, processes and procedures are being followed when preparing specially prepared meals.
  • Partners with the Safety Champion to ensure compliance of food safety policies and procedures, standards, and expectations.
  • Engages employees and managers in educational in-service and pre-service meetings, and regular trainings to review proper food safety and allergen management procedures (i.e., food allergies/intolerances, avoiding cross-contact, vegan/vegetarian offerings, etc.).
  • May serve in a regional Champion role as the Subject Matter Expert in Health & Wellness, National Menu Labeling, and/or Allergen Management.
  • Performs other management functions as necessary (i.e., large campus events)

Key Responsibilities (cont.)

Nutrition Consultations (30-35%)

  • Conducts one-on-one and/or group nutrition consultations for students, faculty/staff, and employees.
  • Applies Medical Nutrition Therapy and follows the Nutrition Care Process for charting during consultations. Provides educational materials by accredited organizations such as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, American Heart Association, etc.
  • Appropriately refers students to other medical experts, both on- and off-campus as needed.
  • Works with clients, campus accessibility/disability services and campus health services for proper student registration and medical documentation as it pertains to meal plan exemptions and accommodations.
  • Provides individual tours to students and prospective groups to familiarize them with campus dining locations and to identify options related to their specific needs.
  • Follows Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines throughout the nutrition counseling process.
  • Maintains registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration and Licensure through the state board as applicable. Submits status annually.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year university or college in nutrition and dietetics.
    • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential with the Commission of Dietetic Registration and Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist status, if residing in a state with licensure requirements. RDN-eligible candidates will be considered but must pass exam within 6 months of hire date.
    • Food safety knowledge with ServSafe certification; must be obtained within 6 weeks of hire date.
  • Preferred but not required:
    • Master’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, food/health sciences or related field.
    • At least one (1) year experience in K12, higher education or food service.
  • Knowledge working with PC applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (previous experience with food production systems, nutrition analysis software, electronic medical recording, and social media platforms preferred).
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written); can effectively communicate with clients, customers, and support staff.
  • The ability to develop and conduct training seminars, presentations and speak to small or large groups of people.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relations and communicate with a wide range of people and behavior styles.
  • Solid strategic, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities to meet the demands of the business.
  • A self-starter, confident in abilities, self-motivated and able to work effectively with little supervision.
  • Have an all-hands-on deck, team-oriented mentality and feels comfortable conducting out-of-scope responsibilities when needed.
  • Creative and flexible in attitude/style to adapt to new situations in a dynamic environment.
  • A strong value system, unquestioned integrity, and good listening skills.
