Job Description
Aramark Facilities Management is hiring a Floor Technician to support the SCAD campus in Savannah, Georgia. This hands-on custodial and floor care role is responsible for maintaining and restoring hard floors and carpeted surfaces throughout academic buildings, residence halls, and other high-traffic areas. Daily work includes operating floor care equipment, stripping and waxing floors, carpet extraction, burnishing, polishing, and responding to floor maintenance requests. Candidates should be comfortable performing physical work, working independently, and maintaining a safe and clean environment around students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position follows an overnight schedule and may include weekends, special events, and occasional overtime based on campus needs. Reliable attendance, attention to detail, and experience in commercial cleaning, janitorial services, custodial work, or floor maintenance are highly valued.
Job Responsibilities
• Perform floor maintenance and restoration on hard surface and carpeted floors throughout campus buildings.
• Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, wax, burnish, buff, and polish floors to maintain appearance and safety standards.
• Shampoo, extract, spot clean, and vacuum carpets and upholstered surfaces.
• Operate floor care equipment including auto scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, carpet extractors, and related cleaning machinery.
• Complete scheduled floor care assignments and respond to special cleaning or restoration requests.
• Remove trash, recyclables, soiled materials, and other waste from assigned areas.
• Follow chemical handling procedures, equipment operating instructions, and safety guidelines.
• Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain compliance with sanitation and safety standards.
• Work across multiple campus buildings, including academic facilities, residence halls, common areas, and other public-facing spaces.
• Maintain professional interactions with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and fellow team members.
• Inspect floors and work areas to ensure quality standards are consistently met.
Qualifications
Required
- Ability to safely operate floor care equipment or learn equipment operation quickly.
- Ability to follow chemical labels, safety procedures, and equipment instructions.
- Reliable attendance, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and campus personnel.
- Ability to work overnight shifts, including weekends, special events, and occasional overtime as needed.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push equipment, and perform physically demanding work throughout the shift.
- Ability to work safely in occupied buildings around students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
Preferred
- 1+ year of experience in commercial housekeeping, custodial services, janitorial work, floor maintenance, or a related cleaning role.
- Experience using auto scrubbers, floor buffers, burnishers, carpet extractors, and other floor care equipment.
- Knowledge of floor stripping, refinishing, carpet care, cleaning chemicals, and workplace safety practices.
