Job Description
The Custodial Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily custodial operations of a large higher education campus, ensuring clean, safe, and welcoming environments for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position provides leadership to custodial supervisors and frontline employees while driving operational excellence, customer satisfaction, safety compliance, and financial performance.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong experience in environmental services, housekeeping, or custodial operations within a university, healthcare, hospitality, or large commercial setting.
Job Responsibilities

Operations Management
- Direct and oversee daily custodial operations across academic buildings, residence halls, administrative offices, athletic facilities, and public spaces.
- Develop and implement cleaning schedules, project plans, and quality assurance programs.
- Ensure campus facilities consistently meet cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance standards.
- Coordinate staffing and resources to support special events, commencements, orientations, conferences, and campus activities.
- Monitor work order completion and respond effectively to customer service requests.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop custodial staff and supervisors.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback and recognition.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented working environment.
- Manage staffing levels, scheduling, attendance, and labor utilization.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, university guidelines, and labor agreements where applicable.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote a strong culture of safety and accountability.
- Ensure adherence to OSHA regulations, chemical handling procedures, infection prevention standards, and campus safety protocols.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and training sessions.
- Maintain compliance with environmental and sustainability initiatives.
Financial Management
- Manage labor budgets, supply costs, equipment expenditures, and operational expenses.
- Monitor productivity metrics and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies.
- Assist in annual budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Maintain accurate inventory controls and procurement practices.
Client & Customer Relations
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with campus leadership, facilities teams, residence life staff, and other stakeholders.
- Address customer concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Participate in client meetings and provide operational updates and performance reporting.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance customer satisfaction.
Qualifications

3+ years of custodial, housekeeping, environmental services, or facilities management experience.

2+ years of supervisory or management experience leading hourly teams.

Strong knowledge of custodial equipment, cleaning methods, chemicals, and safety practices.

Experience managing budgets, staffing, and operational performance metrics.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Compensation Data
COMPENSATION: The Salaried rate for this position is $70,000.00 to $75,000.00. If both numbers are the same, that is the amount that Aramark expects to offer. This is Aramark’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for this position as of the time of posting.
