Job Description

The Sustainability Intern is responsible for assisting the Sustainability Manager to ensure Aramark/Tulane Hospitality’s Sustainability needs are met. This position will primarily assist with all current and future dining strategy implementation as it relates to Sustainability within Hospitality Services. The Sustainability Intern must be a student at Tulane University in a related field and possess excellent customer service and verbal communication skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with managing waste diversion programs
  • Adhere to Aramark safety policies and procedures including proper food safety and sanitation
  • Help facilitate Sustainability events like Weigh The Waste, fresh produce markets, and more
  • Educate students about sustainability efforts within campus dining through tabling events and other outreach. This includes promoting our local purchasing program, Coolfood/Plant Forward menu offerings, and campus partnerships around waste diversion initiatives.    
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community members
  • Find opportunities to collaborate with community and campus partners
  • Develop a basic knowledge of sustainability and environmental principles
  • Ability to work 4-10 hours per week.
  • Exhibit a willingness to take initiative and work independently and collaboratively 
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by manager

Qualifications

  • Must be a current Tulane University student pursuing a degree in a Sustainability or Environmental Sciences related field, or a member of the Food Recovery Network, Epsilon Eta Sigma, ReCoast, SAFI, Trash to Treasure, TUCLEAN or other sustainability or food insecurity focused student organizations
  • Professional interest and enthusiasm in environmental education, community engagement, leadership, and sustainability
  • Organized and efficient worker; ability to keep track of multiple projects and tasks
  • Requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of up to 30 lbs.
  • Candidate must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and on a team
