Job Description
The Payroll Specialist supports an assigned pay group that may include up to 20,000 employees. This role helps process accurate, timely payroll, researches discrepancies, and maintains supporting records and controls. The position has no direct reports.
Schedule
• Required schedule: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; on-site Wednesday and Thursday. Additional hours or office days may occasionally be needed.
Job Responsibilities
• Enter, review, and maintain payroll and employee data for an assigned pay group; follow weekly payroll production deadlines.
• Review payroll batch validation, edit, audit, timekeeping, and unpaid employee reports; research exceptions and make authorized corrections.
• Research payroll questions from employees, field operations, and internal partners; document issues and resolutions and escalate complex matters as needed.
• Prepare or support manual checks and direct deposits with required documentation.
• Complete weekly payroll checkoff and SOX control documentation in accordance with team procedures.
• With training, support tax and benefit maintenance, garnishments, union updates, year-end tasks, and other payroll processes as assigned.
• Help improve procedures, support system changes, and assist with training new team members when appropriate.

Qualifications
Required qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience in human resources (HR), benefits, office tasks, or payroll is required to be considered for an interview.
• Comfortable using a computer on day one, entering data accurately, and reading and entering information in an Excel spreadsheet.
• Ability to learn and work across multiple systems, follow detailed procedures, and meet payroll deadlines.
• Clear communication, attention to detail, and a service-focused approach to resolving questions.
Preferred qualifications
• Hands-on payroll processing experience, particularly in a high-volume environment.
• Experience with UKG payroll.
• Exposure to payroll corrections, timekeeping, multi-state taxes, garnishments, union payroll, or payroll controls.
This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective equipment (PPE).
