Job Description
The Unit Controller is responsible for managing all financial and accounting functions for a higher education facilities services operation. This position serves as a key business partner to operational leadership, providing financial guidance, budget management, forecasting, reporting, and internal control oversight to ensure the account achieves its financial goals while supporting exceptional service delivery to the client. The ideal candidate combines strong financial acumen with the ability to collaborate effectively with operations leaders, client stakeholders, and support teams in a dynamic campus environment.
Job Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, variance reports, and key performance metrics.
- Monitor account performance against budget and forecast, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes in accordance with company policies and deadlines.
- Develop annual operating budgets and assist with long-range financial planning.
- Prepare regular financial presentations and reports for account leadership and client review meetings.
- Provide recommendations to improve profitability, reduce costs, and enhance operational efficiency.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Manage forecasting processes, including labor, materials, subcontractor, and operating expense projections.
- Monitor labor costs and productivity metrics to ensure alignment with budget expectations.
- Track capital expenditures and assist in developing business cases for facilities investments.
- Analyze trends and develop financial models to support strategic decision-making.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Oversee invoice processing and ensure timely vendor payments.
- Review procurement activities for compliance with contractual and company requirements.
- Support client billing processes and monitor accounts receivable balances.
- Reconcile financial transactions and resolve discrepancies as needed.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies, audit requirements, and internal controls.
- Conduct financial reviews and audits of operational processes and transactions.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Support internal and external audit activities.
- Ensure adherence to client contract requirements and financial obligations.
Operational Partnership
- Partner closely with Facilities Directors, Operations Managers, and campus leadership to support business objectives.
- Provide financial analysis related to staffing, maintenance programs, projects, and operational initiatives.
- Assist leadership teams in evaluating service enhancements, cost-saving opportunities, and process improvements.
- Translate financial information into actionable recommendations for non-financial stakeholders.
Data Analysis & Decision Support
- Utilize financial systems and reporting tools to provide actionable business insights.
- Develop dashboards, scorecards, and performance reporting metrics.
- Analyze trends related to labor utilization, work order management, maintenance costs, inventory, and subcontracted services.
- Support strategic planning initiatives through data-driven financial analysis.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- 3-5+ years of progressive accounting, finance, or controllership experience.
- Experience supporting facilities management, contract services, higher education, property management, hospitality, healthcare, or related operational environments preferred.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting required.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, financial systems, and ERP applications.
- Ability to analyze complex financial data and communicate findings effectively.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and business partnership skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across functional teams.
Compensation Data
COMPENSATION: The salary for this position is $80,000 to $90,000. If both numbers are the same, that is the amount that Aramark expects to offer. This is Aramark’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for this position as of the time of posting.
