Job Description
Aramark Facilities Management is seeking a skilled Journeyman Electrician / Electrician I to support facilities at Alabama A&M University in Normal, Alabama. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining electrical systems in residential, academic, and commercial building environments. The ideal candidate is a dependable, safety-focused electrician who can work independently, manage multiple priorities, and respond to electrical service requests in a fast-paced setting. Daily work includes reading blueprints, diagnosing electrical issues, sourcing repair parts, and ensuring all installations meet applicable electrical codes and safety standards. This position works Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM and participates in a rotating on-call schedule one week per month. Compensation for this role is $30.00 - $37.50 per hour.
Job Responsibilities
• Respond to electrical work orders and service requests in a timely manner.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical system issues in residential, academic, and commercial facilities.
• Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, lighting fixtures, receptacles, switchgear, transformers, and other electrical components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, electrical diagrams, and technical manuals to complete installations and repairs.
• Test electrical equipment and circuits using meters and diagnostic tools to verify proper operation.
• Identify, source, and document parts required for repairs and new installations.
• Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
• Maintain accurate records of completed work, inspections, repairs, and material usage.
• Ensure all work complies with applicable electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all facility safety procedures.
• Work independently while effectively managing changing priorities and urgent maintenance needs.
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and respond to after-hours electrical emergencies as needed.
Qualifications
Required
• Journeyman Electrician license or certification.
• Minimum 5 years of commercial and residential electrical experience.
• Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and installing electrical systems and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Strong knowledge of electrical safety practices, codes, and installation standards.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong problem-solving, organization, and documentation skills.
• Availability to work Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM.
• Ability to participate in a rotating on-call schedule (one week per month).
• Ability to lift, carry, bend, climb, push, pull, walk, and stand for extended periods while working in electrical and maintenance environments.
Preferred
• Experience working in higher education, healthcare, industrial, or large commercial facilities.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
• Additional electrical, safety, or trade certifications.
