Job Description
Slane Café at High Point University is seeking a passionate and dependable Cook to join our residential dining team. As a Residential Cook, you will play an important role in creating a welcoming dining experience for students by preparing high-quality meals in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This position supports daily food production while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, presentation, safety, and sanitation. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, demonstrates strong attention to detail, and enjoys collaborating with others to provide exceptional service to the campus community.
Job Responsibilities
- Cooks and prepares a variety of food according to production guidelines and standardized recipes.
- Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment.
- Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items.
- Safely uses a variety of utensils including knives.
- Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc.
- Bakes, roasts, broils, steams, and uses a variety of cooking methods on meat, vegetables, and other foods.
- Arranges, garnishes, and portions food according to established guidelines with a strong attention to detail and commitment to quality presentation.
- Accurately maintains daily temperature logs and completes required food safety and sanitation documentation.
- Properly stores food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures.
- Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils.
- Works collaboratively with fellow team members to support kitchen operations and deliver an exceptional residential dining experience for students.
- Maintains excellent customer service and a positive demeanor toward guests, customers, clients, and co-workers.
- Adheres to Aramark safety policies and procedures, including food safety and sanitation standards.
- Ensures security of company assets.
- Completes all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of experience as a cook in a high-volume food service, restaurant, hospitality, healthcare, or residential dining environment required.

Batch cooking experience preferred, with the ability to prepare quality food efficiently while meeting production schedules.

Demonstrated knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, recipe execution, and food presentation standards.

Working knowledge of food safety regulations, including proper food handling, sanitation, storage, and temperature control procedures.

ServSafe® Certification required within six (6) months of employment.

Experience accurately maintaining temperature logs and completing food safety documentation.Inventory management, product rotation, and stock control experience preferred.

Ability to follow standardized recipes and production guidelines with strong attention to detail.

Basic math and measurement skills required for food preparation, portioning, and recipe scaling.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Demonstrates reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to providing an exceptional dining experience.

Ability to prioritize tasks, adapt to changing business needs, and maintain a positive attitude in a dynamic kitchen environment.
This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
