JMU Dining is looking for a student leader to join the JMU Dining Team. The Lead Sustainability Intern’s primary role is to assist with the development and implementation of long-term environmental stewardship programs within the areas of ethical and local food sourcing, food waste minimization, food insecurity, and student education. One full semester commitment is required, with the opportunity to extend the internship based on performance.

Compensation Data

COMPENSATION: The Hourly rate for this position is $18.50 to $18.50. If both numbers are the same, that is the amount that Aramark expects to offer. This is Aramark’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for this position as of the time of posting.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as an advocate for JMU Dining’s sustainability initiatives
  • Create exceptional experiences by assisting with overall event planning and deployment, which includes set-up, program management, and break-down
  • Assist with management of special projects: JMU Dining's Farmer's Market, Wipe Out Waste Events, reusable container program promotion, and other tasks assigned by manager. Act as cashier at weekly farmer’s market
  • Assist with maintaining hydroponics grow cabinet
  • Assist with promotion and usage of sustainable/local food being purchased
  • Connect with campus organizations and identify ways to inform and maintain those relationships
  • Position includes some general office work and administrative activities
  • Assist with food recovery efforts in the dining halls as a team leader at least once a month
  • Any other reasonable requests as detailed by management and in tandem with the events coordinator

Qualifications

  • Must have a team player attitude, be dependable, reliable, and respectable; exemplify leadership qualities and professionalism with excellent customer service skills
  • Strong communication skills and a creative mindset are a must
  • Comfortable talking with students; outgoing
  • Comfortable working independently.
  • Physical Demands: Specific physical characteristics and abilities are required to perform work, such as agility, dexterity, and long periods of walking, standing, bending, and carrying or lifting supplies and equipment weighing 10 pounds or more.
