Job Description
The Custodial Manager is responsible for leading and managing custodial operations across a K-12 educational facility or campus during second shift. This position ensures a clean, safe, and healthy learning environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors through effective supervision of custodial personnel, operational planning, quality assurance inspections, and adherence to client and company standards.
The Custodial Manager provides hands-on leadership, develops team members, maintains staffing levels, and ensures all contractual obligations and service expectations are met while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
Job Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise, coach, and develop a team of custodial employees assigned to second shift operations.
- Conduct training and onboarding for new team members on cleaning procedures, safety practices, and customer service expectations.
- Manage scheduling, attendance, performance management, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Operational Excellence
- Direct daily custodial activities to ensure classrooms, offices, cafeterias, gyms, restrooms, and common areas meet established cleanliness standards.
- Conduct routine inspections and quality audits to ensure compliance with client expectations and company standards.
- Coordinate special cleaning projects, floor care programs, and seasonal deep-cleaning activities.
- Ensure timely completion of work orders and client requests.
Client & School Partnership
- Serve as a primary point of contact for school administrators, principals, and facility stakeholders during assigned shift.
- Respond promptly to service concerns and implement corrective action plans when necessary.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with district personnel and client representatives.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote a strong safety culture through training, observation, and accountability.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, infection prevention protocols, and school district requirements.
- Maintain proper chemical handling, storage, and usage procedures.
- Investigate and document workplace incidents and safety concerns.
Inventory & Budget Management
- Monitor custodial supply inventories and equipment condition.
- Coordinate ordering and distribution of cleaning supplies and consumables.
- Assist with labor management and budgetary controls to meet operational and financial goals.
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained and operational.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Complete payroll, scheduling, staffing reports, inspections, and operational documentation accurately and on time.
- Track key performance indicators and identify opportunities for service enhancements.
- Participate in client meetings and operational reviews as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 3-5 years of custodial, housekeeping, facilities, or environmental services experience.
- Minimum 1-2 years of supervisory or management experience.
- Experience leading frontline teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and workforce management systems.
- Ability to work evenings and respond to operational issues as needed.
