Job Description
The Transportation Manager under Facilities Management is responsible for overseeing all transportation operations and ensuring seamless integration with facility services. This role manages fleet operations, personnel, compliance, and budgeting while supporting organizational objectives for safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Job Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement transportation strategies aligned with facilities management goals. Collaborate with leadership on long-term planning for transportation and infrastructure needs.
- Operational Oversight: Manage daily transportation operations, including routing, scheduling, and dispatch. Ensure timely and reliable movement of personnel, students, and materials across facilities.
- Fleet & Asset Management: Oversee preventive maintenance and lifecycle management of vehicles and equipment. Maintain compliance with environmental and safety standards.
- Personnel Management: Supervise transportation staff, including drivers and mechanics. Conduct hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
- Budget & Financial Control: Prepare and manage transportation budgets within facilities management framework. Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local transportation regulations. Implement risk management and emergency response procedures.
- Facilities Coordination: Align transportation schedules with facility maintenance, custodial operations, and event planning. Support logistics for construction projects and special events.
- Reporting & Performance Metrics: Track KPIs for transportation efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Provide regular reports to Facilities Management leadership.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2- 5 years of experience in transportation and facility operations.
- Strong knowledge of compliance standards (ADA, OSHA, EPA).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership qualities including the ability to communicate effectively and relate positively with students, parents, staff and community members.
- Outstanding working knowledge of both Michigan and federal transportation laws and regulations.
- Strong work ethics, including the ability to prioritize, solve problems, self-start, work on tight deadlines and make decisions aligned with district policies.
- Commitment to high professional standards.
- Ability to use computerized transportation software and proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
