Job Description

The Student Worker for Marketing is a vital, creative role responsible for supporting the UVA Dine team's digital presence, on-campus promotions, and customer engagement efforts. This part-time position requires an actively enrolled student who is enthusiastic about food and dining culture, possesses strong social media skills, and is comfortable creating and capturing dynamic, engaging content for the UVA student body.

Job Responsibilities

Content Creation & Social Media Support

  • Photography & Videography: Capture high-quality, appealing photographs and short-form video clips of food, dining hall environments, special events, and promotions for use across UVA Dine's social media channels.
  • Post Scheduling & Engagement: Assist the Marketing Manager with drafting, scheduling, and publishing content. Monitor social media comments and direct messages, providing initial responses and escalating key questions or issues to management.

  • Graphic Design: Create basic marketing materials, including digital flyers, menu boards, and promotional graphics, utilizing established brand templates and guidelines.

Event & Promotion Execution

  • On-Campus Presence: Staff and promote UVA Dine engagement activities, special dining events (e.g., themed dinners, pop-ups), and tabling events to drive student participation and increase meal plan awareness.

  • Data Collection: Conduct informal student surveys, gather feedback, and collect customer testimonials during events to inform future marketing strategy.

  • Merchandising Support: Assist with placing promotional signage, posters, and display materials in various dining hall locations, ensuring they are current and professionally presented.

Administrative Support

  • Attend and contribute creative ideas during weekly marketing and operations meetings.

  • Maintain an organized digital archive of all photo and video assets, ensuring proper usage rights and file names.

  • Track and report key social media metrics and engagement data to the Marketing Manager.

Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at the University of Virginia.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with major social media platforms.

  • Experience with, or a strong aptitude for, basic photography and mobile video editing.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a positive, outgoing, and professional demeanor.

  • Ability to work a consistent, part-time schedule (e.g., 10-15 hours per week) that includes some evening or weekend event coverage.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in marketing, communications, or public relations.

  • Familiarity with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express).

  • Existing knowledge of the UVA Dine system, locations, and meal plans.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 4 hours) during event coverage.

  • Ability to lift and carry marketing materials, boxes, or small equipment (up to 20 pounds) occasionally.
