Title:  General Utility Worker - Univ. of Virginia-Catering

Job Description

UVA Dine is seeking reliable and hardworking General Utility Workers to support food service operations for both catering events at John Paul Jones Arena and athletic dining services. This role is essential for maintaining a clean and organized kitchen and dining environment, assisting with food preparation, and providing crucial support to culinary and service staff in a dynamic, high-volume setting.

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and dining areas within John Paul Jones Arena, including floors, surfaces, equipment, and utensils.
• Assist with basic food preparation tasks, such as washing, peeling, and cutting fruits and vegetables, as directed by culinary staff for catering and athletic dining.
• Transport food items, supplies, and equipment within the arena's dining facilities for various events and daily athletic service.
• Operate dishwashing equipment to clean dishes, utensils, and cookware used in catering and athletic dining.
• Empty trash and recycling receptacles and dispose of waste properly throughout the kitchen and service areas.
• Assist with setting up and breaking down dining areas for catered events, team meals, and other functions at John Paul Jones Arena.
• Clean and sanitize food storage areas, including refrigerators and freezers.
• Receive and store deliveries of food and supplies for both catering and athletic dining operations.
• Assist with bussing tables and cleaning dining areas during meal service and events.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the catering and athletic dining facilities.
• Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, including proper handling, storage, and labeling of food and chemicals.
• Adhere to all university and dining services policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and understand basic instructions.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25-50 pounds.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by event and athletic schedules.
