Job Description
The Cook at the Gaston Food Hub is a hands-on culinary role responsible for the preparation and execution of high-quality menu items across the hub's four unique dining concepts (The Den by Denny's, Bodega, Launch Test Kitchen, and Whisk Pastry). This role requires flexibility and adaptability, as the successful candidate will work a rotating schedule that includes both day and late-night shifts. The Cook ensures consistency, adheres to strict food safety standards, and collaborates effectively with the entire kitchen team.
Job Responsibilities
Culinary Production and Execution

Prepare, cook, and present food items according to established recipes, production sheets, and quality standards for all dining concepts within the Gaston Food Hub.

Operate and maintain various commercial kitchen equipment, including grills, fryers, ovens, slicers, and other high-volume cooking apparatus.

Execute station setup, stocking, and breakdown for scheduled shifts (including day, evening, and late-night service).

Monitor food quality and make necessary adjustments to ensure product consistency and proper plate presentation.
Food Safety and Sanitation

Strictly adhere to all local, state, federal, and Aramark policies regarding food handling, safety, and sanitation (HACCP principles).

Monitor and record food temperatures, holding temperatures, and cooling times to ensure compliance.

Prevent cross-contamination by properly handling, storing, and labeling all ingredients and prepared items.

Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the assigned work station, including all cooking surfaces, equipment, and storage areas.
Teamwork and Inventory

Assist with receiving and properly storing food deliveries, practicing the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) method to ensure proper rotation.

Communicate proactively with the Sous Chef and management regarding inventory levels, equipment issues, or potential delays in service.

Work collaboratively with Food Service Workers and Leads to ensure seamless service flow from the kitchen to the service counter.

Qualifications
Required
-
Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience as a Cook or Prep Cook in a commercial kitchen or high-volume food service environment.

Proven ability to read and follow standardized recipes and production guides accurately.

Must be able to successfully work a rotating shift schedule, which includes covering day shifts (breakfast/lunch) and evening/late-night shifts.

Strong knowledge of kitchen sanitation procedures and food safety principles.

Ability to work independently and manage time effectively during busy service periods.
Preferred
-
Current ServSafe certification.

Experience working in a multi-concept dining environment.
Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift).

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds frequently.

Requires frequent bending, reaching, and stooping in a fast-paced environment.
