Job Description

UVA Dine is seeking enthusiastic and customer-focused Catering Service Workers to join our team, supporting both athletic dining and catering operations at John Paul Jones Arena on the University of Virginia grounds. This role is essential for providing excellent service to student-athletes, coaches, and guests during daily meals and special catered events. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a positive attitude, committed to delivering high-quality service in a dynamic environment.

Job Responsibilities

• Guest Welcome & Service: Provide a polite and smiling welcome to all guests, including student-athletes, coaches, and event attendees.

• Access Control: Accurately swipe in student-athletes as they enter the dining hall for meals.

• Setup & Stocking: Assist in setting up and stocking food service stations, serving areas, and dining spaces for both athletic meals and catered events.

• Front-of-House (FOH) Support: Continuously monitor and restock front-of-house needs, including condiments, beverages, utensils, and plates, to ensure a smooth guest experience.

• Food Service: Serve food items to guests according to established portion sizes and presentation standards.

• Cleanliness & Organization: Maintain cleanliness and organization of dining areas, serving lines, and workstations throughout shifts.

• Dishwashing & Utility: Assist with dishwashing, bussing tables, and general cleaning tasks as needed.

• Food Safety: Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, including proper handling and temperature control of food items.

• Team Collaboration: Work effectively as part of a team to ensure efficient and timely service during busy meal periods and events.

• Adherence to Standards: Adhere to all UVA Dine and Aramark policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and understand basic instructions.

• Ability to perform basic math calculations (e.g., for swiping in guests).

• Strong communication and customer service skills.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by athletic schedules and catering events.

• Prior experience in food service or customer service is preferred, but not always required.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (e.g., 6-8+ hours).

• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.

• Ability to work in a dining and kitchen environment, which may be busy and require exposure to various temperatures.

• Ability to bend, stoop, and reach as needed.

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
