Job Description

The Virginia Catering Company, operated by UVA Dine, is seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Sales Manager to join our team. This full-time position is responsible for driving revenue growth by developing and executing sales strategies, cultivating strong client relationships, and securing new catering business across the University of Virginia grounds and surrounding areas. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in catering sales, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for creating memorable event experiences.

Job Responsibilities

  • Sales Strategy & Execution:

    • Develop and implement comprehensive sales plans to achieve and exceed catering revenue targets.

    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through proactive outreach, networking, and market research.

    • Prepare compelling proposals, contracts, and presentations tailored to client needs.

    • Manage the sales pipeline from lead generation to contract closing.

  • Client Relationship Management:

    • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with existing and prospective clients, including university departments, student organizations, and external community partners.

    • Conduct client meetings, site visits, and tastings to understand requirements and showcase catering capabilities.

    • Ensure high levels of client satisfaction throughout the sales process and post-event follow-up.

  • Collaboration & Coordination:

    • Liaise closely with the Catering Operations Manager, Catering Chef, and culinary team to ensure seamless event planning and execution.

    • Communicate client needs, event details, and special requests accurately and efficiently to the operations team.

    • Participate in post-event reviews to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement.

  • Market & Industry Knowledge:

    • Stay informed about current catering trends, competitive landscape, and market demands within the university and local community.

    • Represent The Virginia Catering Company at relevant industry events, trade shows, and networking functions.

  • Administrative & Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client information and sales activity in the CRM system.

    • Prepare regular sales forecasts, reports, and analyses for management.

    • Manage sales-related administrative tasks efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive sales experience, with at least 2 years specifically in catering sales, banquet sales, or event management, preferably within a university or large-scale institutional setting.

  • Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets.

  • Exceptional negotiation, presentation, and closing skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Proficiency in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce, Caterease) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as dictated by client meetings and event schedules.

  • Valid Driver's License and ability to travel locally as needed for client meetings and event sites.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Primarily office-based, with frequent travel to client sites and event locations on and off campus.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods, as well as stand and walk during client meetings and events.

  • Occasional lifting and carrying of presentation materials, samples, or light event setup items (up to 20 pounds).

  • Manual dexterity for computer work and handling documents.
