Job Description

Aramark Healthcare+ is seeking a Patient Transport Associate Manager at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. Reporting to the Patient Transport Manager, this position supports daily patient transport operations and leads a team focused on safe, timely, and compassionate service for pediatric patients and their families.

The Associate Manager will maintain an active presence throughout the hospital, coordinate staffing and transport priorities, coach employees, and resolve service concerns. This role works closely with nursing, clinical departments, and hospital leadership to support patient flow and a positive patient experience.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead daily patient transport operations, ensuring patients are transported safely and efficiently in accordance with hospital policies and established procedures.

  • Coordinate staff assignments, schedules, and coverage to meet transport demand and minimize delays.

  • Maintain an active presence on patient floors, support employees, and address operational concerns as they arise.

  • Assist with patient transport and provide hands-on support during periods of high volume or staffing shortages.

  • Partner with nursing and other hospital departments to communicate transport priorities, resolve delays, and support patient flow.

  • Train, coach, and develop employees on transport procedures, patient safety, equipment use, infection prevention, and service expectations.

  • Lead daily team briefings, recognize employee contributions, and address performance concerns in partnership with the Patient Transport Manager.

  • Model Aramark’s WEST service approach: Welcome, Engage, Smile, and Thank You to promote courteous, respectful interactions with patients, families, and hospital staff.

  • Monitor transport response times, service quality, productivity, and other department performance measures; help implement improvements.

  • Support payroll, timekeeping, overtime control, and labor planning within established budget guidelines.

  • Ensure transport equipment is clean, available, and in safe working condition; report maintenance needs promptly.

  • Maintain required operational records and support hospital survey readiness and compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.

  • Provide leadership coverage in the absence of the Patient Transport Manager and complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least 2–3 years of supervisory experience; previous management experience preferred.

  • Experience in patient transport, healthcare support services, or hospital operations preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, schedule, and supervise employees.

  • Strong customer service, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize competing requests and respond effectively in a busy hospital environment.

  • Ability to communicate with pediatric patients and families in a calm, compassionate, and age-appropriate manner.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn scheduling, timekeeping, and transport tracking systems.

  • Ability to perform the essential duties of patient transport, including moving patients using approved equipment and procedures, with or without reasonable accommodation.
