Job Description
The Sous Chef assists in overseeing the daily culinary operations of the kitchen, ensuring food quality, safety, consistency, and efficiency. Working closely with the Executive Chef and culinary leadership team, the Sous Chef supervises kitchen staff, supports menu execution, manages food production, and helps maintain a positive and productive work environment. This position serves as a key leader in the absence of the Executive Chef and plays an active role in employee development, operational excellence, and guest satisfaction.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise daily kitchen operations to ensure high-quality food production, consistency, and timely service.
- Direct, train, and develop culinary team members while promoting a culture of accountability and teamwork.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and HACCP standards.
- Manage food production, inventory, ordering, and waste control to support financial and operational goals.
- Assist with labor planning, scheduling, and staffing to maintain efficient operations.
- Support menu execution, special events, and catering functions while maintaining established quality standards.
- Serve as the kitchen leader in the absence of the Executive Chef, providing operational oversight and decision-making support.
- Collaborate with culinary and operational leadership to drive guest satisfaction, employee engagement, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2–5 years of culinary experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Knowledge of food preparation techniques, menu planning, and kitchen operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality standards.
- ServSafe Manager Certification preferred or required within a designated timeframe.
