Job Description
The Porter/Caretaker will be responsible for assisting patients to their appointments. Be responsible for the collection and delivery of post and other goods, and generally assisting with the smooth operation of the Primary Care Centre on a day to day basis.
Job Responsibilities
• To attend at and open Castlebar Primary Care Centre on the days and for the hours laid down, and to remain in attendance throughout those times. At present the hours of duty are 08:00 to 16:45, with one hour for lunch 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm, Monday to Friday.
• To guide patients safely throughout the Primary Care Centre, at all times treating patients with respect, courtesy and dignity.
• To maintain order amongst persons attending the centre.
• To set up meeting rooms/bookable rooms in the layout requested.
• To furnish any information as maybe necessary to persons making enquiries and give such persons all necessary assistance.
• To be responsible for safeguarding the building and its contents, for the custody of all keys and to preserve the building and grounds from trespass.
• To report promptly to the Landlord/Management Company any:
Defect in or damage to the building or to the boundary railings
• To collect Tea/Coffee/Milk from catering company at St. Mary’s Campus twice per week.
• Complete monthly order for stores for consumables in the building.
• Access CCTV as required and appropriate.
• To accept any deliveries made to the centre and notify the relevant recipient, unpack and store supplies, dispose of empty cartons, as maybe required.
• To receive post delivery for the centre each morning and distribute to the relevant areas. To collect post from the relevant areas each afternoon and frank and deliver to the post office by required dispatch time.
• To be responsible for cleaning any spillages that may occur outside of the contract cleaning hours.
• To be responsible for the cleanliness and tidiness of communal areas (grounds / foyer / corridors) and to ensure that rubbish is not allowed to accumulate thereon.
• Manage Waste within the centre – ensuring that bins are left out for collection as required.
• To cover Reception when required.
• To work as part of a team in the provision of services and have good relationship with all personnel.
• To carry out and assist with general duties including movement, delivery and distribution of catering supplies, medical gasses, equipment, etc, when requested.
• To be aware of statutory Occupational Health & Safety Legislation under the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act, 1989.
• To report any observed defects or problems affecting standards of care and general safety.
• To demonstrate a professional friendly and co-operative attitude towards patients / visitors / staff.
• To guide patients safely throughout the Primary Care Centre, at all times treating patients with respect, courtesy and dignity.
• Confidentiality must be adhered to at all times with respect to patients’ illness. No details of patients / staff are to be divulged or discussed outside of the hospital campus.
• To act appropriately while on duty and at all times.
• To carry out any other duties, which may be assigned from time to time by other authorized Personnel.
Qualifications
You will need to have:

- A reliable and hardworking approach.
- The ability to cope well with sickness and distress.
- Relevant manual handling training for dealing with deliveries.
- Hepatitis B Vaccination.
- Appropriate knowledge of correct procedure in handling clinical waste.
- Full driving licence.
Garda Vetting Clearance is also require for this role.
