Are you a passionate baker who takes pride in creating fresh, high-quality products? We are looking for a dedicated Baker to join our catering team at Drayton Manor High School. In this rewarding role, you’ll play a key part in delivering nutritious, appealing baked goods that support the health and wellbeing of our pupils.

Working in a fast-paced school kitchen, you’ll produce a variety of breads, pastries, and sweet treats while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality. Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare and bake a variety of fresh products including breads, rolls, pastries, cakes, and desserts to required standards
  • Ensure all food produced meets UK School Food Standards, including nutritional balance and portion control
  • Manage allergen requirements and produce suitable baked goods for pupils with specific dietary needs
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and organisation in the kitchen and baking areas
  • Accurately complete food safety documentation, including temperature and cleaning records
  • Support the wider catering team with food preparation and service during peak periods
  • Work collaboratively with the Head Chef and team to deliver efficient daily kitchen operations
  • Engage positively with pupils and staff, responding to feedback to improve menu offerings and increase uptake

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Baker or in a similar food production role, ideally within schools or contract catering
  • Strong knowledge of baking techniques, batch production, and product consistency
  • Understanding of UK School Food Standards and commitment to healthy, nutritious food
  • Sound awareness of food safety, hygiene regulations, and allergen management (including Natasha’s Law)
  • Ability to work efficiently to tight deadlines in a fast‑paced kitchen environment
  • High attention to detail in quality, presentation, portion control, and cleanliness
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a positive and professional attitude
  • Commitment to safeguarding, professionalism, and appropriate conduct within a school setting
