We’re hiring a Kitchen Manager to join our passionate team at HMP Birmingham. 

This role is embedded within a complex operational environment at HMP Birmingham, a Category B prison with high footfall and ongoing refurbishment works. The kitchen supports not only daily prisoner meals but also services for staff, contractors, and visitors, with up to 240 daily visitors utilising catering facilities. You’ll be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the prison’s main kitchen and maintaining food safety standards, managing kitchen staff, coordinating meal production, and ensuring operational continuity in a high-security environment. 

What You’ll Do:

• Operational Delivery: Managing food production and logistics within the prison kitchen, including oversight of daily meal preparation and compliance with HMPPS standards. 
• Staff Management: Leading a team of nine direct reports, including Aramark staff and resident workers, ensuring training, rota planning, and performance oversight.  
• Compliance and Safety: Enforcing food safety protocols, managing risk assessments, and ensuring adherence to HMPPS guidelines.  
• Client Liaison and KPI Fulfilment: Acting as the secondary point of contact for client communications, resolving complaints, and ensuring service delivery meets contractual obligations. 

What We’re Looking For:

• NVG Level 3 – Culinary or equivalent. 
• Food Hygiene Certificate – Level 3 (intermediate).  
• Food Production Management System training. 
• Previous experience managing a team of chefs in a busy kitchen environment. 
• Previous experience in a client facing role or retail branded environment. 
• Lived in the UK for the past 5 years and have a legal right to work and must be able to pass full security vetting and DBS checks.
