What You’ll Do
As the Assistant Food Service Manager, you support the daily operations of the dining program at Pearson College. You work closely with the Chef Manager and Food Service Director to ensure smooth service, strong team performance, and a great experience for students, staff, and guests.
This role blends light culinary support, front line leadership, administrative tasks, and operational oversight. You help set the tone for service excellence and step in as the lead when the Chef Manager or Director is away.
Culinary experiences and well-maintained environments are fundamental to student success.
From brain-powering ingredients to comforting flavor combinations, nutritious food doesn’t have to be boring. Aramark chefs and dietitians are constantly reviewing the latest insights and food trends to find the next culinary innovation and help students discover their love of food.

Job Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Support
• Support the Chef Manager in leading, scheduling, and coaching the food service team
• Provide hands on support during busy periods (service, prep, plating)
• Help onboard and train new staff
Operational Excellence
• Support daily dining hall operations, ensuring meals are served on time and to standard
• Assist with monitoring food quality, presentation, and portioning
• Help maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and safety throughout the kitchen and service areas
Food Safety & Compliance
• Maintain temperature logs, production records, and other required documentation
• Support HACCP, WHMIS, OH&S, and Aramark compliance programs
• Ensure staff follow all food safety and sanitation procedures
Inventory, Ordering & Cost Control
• Assist with inventory counts, receiving, and stock rotation
• Support ordering and vendor communication
• Help monitor food and labour costs, waste, and portion control
• Contribute to meeting financial targets through efficient operations
Campus & Client Engagement
• Build positive relationships with students, faculty, and campus partners
• Support special events, theme meals, and campus activities
• Participate in client meetings and share operational updates
Administrative Support
• Assist with scheduling, payroll inputs, and basic reporting
• Support rollout of Aramark operational programs and standards
• Act as the lead on shift when the Chef Manager or Director is away

Qualifications
Experience
• 2+ years of experience in food service, hospitality, or culinary operations
• Some supervisory or lead hand experience preferred
• Culinary background required (but not a chef level role)
• Experience in a campus, hotel, or high volume environment is an asset
Skills & Competencies
• Strong communication skills (verbal & written)
• Ability to lead, coach, and motivate a team
• Comfortable working in a fast paced environment with frequent walking and light lifting
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety
• Basic financial literacy (food cost, labour cost, inventory)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

The pay range for this position is $53,045.00 - $65,776.00.
