Job Description
Be a part of the Canada Games! Lighthouse Hospitality, provided by Aramark, is hiring temporary Cooks to help provide food services to athletes staying in the athlete’s village.
The Cook 1 reports directly to the Manager / Chef / Sous Chef on duty but is also accountable to the Lead Hand in regards to the timely preparation, and presentation of food to our guests on a daily basis. The Cook 1 is responsible for ensuring all food preparation and food safety procedures are followed as directed and in accordance with Aramark standards and recipes. Work is that of a general duty/production Cook and may include limited responsibility for recipe selection, product selection, and menu planning. Daily activities are performed according to written or oral instructions/recipes. Food must be of superior quality, and prepared in a timely manner.
Cooks must be very customer oriented and able to multi-task in a fast paced environment and problem solve (or escalate) service issues as they arise. All cooks are expected to set a good example of reliability, punctuality, attendance, and grooming and maintain high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and kitchen safety practices.
This is a temporary position for the Canada Games. Applicants need to be available for mandatory orientation on July 31st, 9am - 5pm and a variety of shifts (early morning, day time, evening, late night and weekends) as required fom August 8th to August 25th.
Job Responsibilities
- Essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary by Aramark location based on client requirements and business needs.
- Cooks and prepare a variety of food according to production guidelines and standardized recipes
- Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment
- Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items
- Safely uses a variety of utensils including knives
- Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc.
- Bakes, roasts, broils, steams, and uses a variety of cooking methods on meat, vegetables, and other foods
- Arranges, garnishes, and portions food according to established guidelines
- Properly stores food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures
- Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils
- Maintains excellent customer service and positive demeanor towards guests, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.
- Adheres to Aramark safety policies and procedures including accurate food safety and sanitation
- Ensures security of company assets
- work independently as well as part of a team.
- Must have excellent customer service skills.
- Must be able to maintain reliable attendance, and work in different areas of the operation as required.
- Capable of physical tasks; standing, walking, bending, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching about, lifting and lowering, and able to complete repetitive motion tasks of the hand, wrist, and elbow, withstand heat and cold of the kitchen facility.
- Lifting requirements for this position are moderate (ability to lift up to 75lbs occasionally and 20lbs - 50lbs frequently).
- Must have successfully completed or be working towards a culinary diploma and/or Red Seal (or other industry certification program). Employees with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Qualifications
- Experience as a cook or in a related role required
- Validated knowledge of the basic principles of food preparation, various cooking methods, and food safety regulations such as accurate food handling, sanitation, and storage
- Must be able to acquire food safety certification
- Demonstrate basic math and counting skills
- Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
