The Shaw Centre is hiring! The Event Services Director's primary responsibilities are driving profitable top line sales, customer relationship management efforts, effective internal and external communications, and positive relationships with the convention center management team.

Job Responsibilities

 

1.    In conjunction with the General Manager, Controller, and the Sales team, develops the annual forecast for the facility.  Once complete, supports the ongoing maintenance of the Event Revenue Analysis.
2.    Drives development, implementation, and measurement of the forecasted revenue objectives on a yearly basis. All revenue objectives are focused on developing sales to attain the component's top line financial forecast. This includes developing sales with existing business (forecasted group/local business) and executing strategies to develop new revenue opportunities.
3.    Oversight of daily food and beverage sales and event planning functions and their successful completion: Developing contacts, timely proposal development, menu negotiations, profitability analysis, contract negotiations as they relate to food and beverage, scheduling, preparation of event orders, event order meeting execution, appropriate event supervision by event services team and post event follow up.
4.    Manages the relationship with clients through the planning process in coordination with sales and operations.
5.    The Director of Events must participate in site tours, site selections, and meetings as needed on request of the Centre or General Manager. 
6.    Leading the event planning process.  Understanding event logistics and event specifications, directing set-up, cutting floor plans, and seeking and resolving gaps in planning. 
7.    Ensuring an aesthetically appealing event and instituting banquet trends and upselling services where possible.
8.    Enforcing banquet and delivery service standards, policies, and procedures. Implementing consistent quality control procedures.
9.    Collaborating with the culinary team to provide well-presented, well-received meals that meet ARAMARK’s service standards.
10.    Managing the pre-event preparation, set-up process and adhering to established event time schedules.
11.    Maintain contact with throughout the service cycle and show a presence during events.
12.    Upholding cost of food and beverage sale goals through the management of appropriate inventory levels and exercising cost-effective purchasing habits. 
13.    Recruitment, onboarding and performance management of Event Services Managers and Event Services team members.
14.    Development, implementation and ongoing management of the Event Services Department tools, resources, and software.
15.    Identifying and rectifying hazardous situations and eliminating risk to the corporation; taking safety precautions as necessary.
16.    Interpreting and ensuring compliance with ARAMARK policies, procedures and guidelines, as well as applicable government, regulatory and/or accrediting agency standards and codes

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree level education required in an area of Food Service, Hospitality, or Business Management.
•    A minimum of five years experience in a contracted food and/or professional service environment, preferably in a convention center, stadium, hotel, or restaurant
•    A minimum of five years previous experience in creating and managing a department budget; creating and managing product sales, and implementing operational programs and initiatives 
•    Demonstrates an understanding and working knowledge of culinary arts and culinary operation
•    A minimum of 5 years previous experience in leading a dynamic team
