Title: Dietary Worker

Job Responsibilities
• The Dietary Aide is responsible for provision of highest quality food service to residents and staff, safe food handling practices and proper sanitation procedures in keeping with all relevant provincial legislation. The Dietary Aide is responsible for cleaning dining room and serving areas, operating the dish machine, cleaning equipment, portioning desserts, fruit and the like and will assist the Cook in food preparation as necessary. The dietary Aide may assume the duties of the Cook in his/her absence.
The Dietary Aide must be able to read and write in English. Other languages are an asset. They must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Completion of the college level Food Service Worker Certificate is an asset. The employee must have the one day Food Handler's certificate.
Recommended Experience includes two to three years training and experience in food services. Must have formal and on the job training in quantity food preparation, cooking, food service, food and equpment safety and sanitation. Demonstrates leadership, decision making, problem solving and communication skills.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS OF THE DIETARY AIDE
Takes and records all temperatures of foods in the servery that are being served to the residents prior to each meal to ensure all food items are at proper temperatures as per standards;take corrective action as necessary.
Set tables for resident meal service;plate resident meals in the servery according to residents diets, likes and dislikes and supportive devices;Offer choice at meal service. Prepare beverage carts/or pour beverages for residents. Prepare food as assigned by the cook. Prepare the desserts and breakfast fruits. Prepare all carts for the units and take carts, serve the meal and bring all carts back to the kitchen. Put away supplies, measure waste and clean the carts. Take inventory of the serveries and restock.
Maintains general knowledge of therapeutic diets to ensure meal orders are processed accurately
SANITATION AND SAFETY
report concerns to the manager
Ensure proper storage conditions and rotation of food supplies and leftovers;dating and labelling foods is essential
Sets and cleans tables and trays for meal services to residents
Collect dirty dishes from dining room and kitchen and wash dishes in dish room
Washes dishes after meals;clean and sanitize food prep areas, storage areas, serving areas and refrigerators in serveries.
Clean juice and coffee machines
Clean equipment daily according to posted cleaning schedule
GENERAL
Attend monthly staf meetings and complete weekly SAFE briefs. Perform all duties in a safe manner consistent with the Facility Statement of Philosophy, Department Goals, Mission Statement and the Statement of Resident Rights.
Perform other duties in a safe manner and assumes other responsibilities as required.
These are examples of tasks completed as part of the Dietary Aide's position.
