Job Description

We are seeking cooks for our Meaford Base location. This is a unionized position (Cook 2) at $22.76 per hour plus benefits. Will require flexibility on schedule for the week as we are a 7-days a week location that serves breakfast, lunch and supper for about 200 soldiers steady state. Number of diners grows to about 800 soldiers during the summer reservist training. We are required to follow a strict menu with portions and recipes provided. You must be comfortable working in a fast paced kitchen and be able to adhere to the guidelines provided. Cook 2 takes direction from the lead cook or Cook 3 on their shift and provide support and direction to Cook 1s on their shift.

Job Responsibilities

- Prepare ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, and chopping
- Cook menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff
- Follow recipes and presentation specifications
- Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation
- Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
- Monitor food stock and place orders when there are shortages

Qualifications

- Proven experience as a Cook
- Knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
- Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
- Familiarity with industry best practices and food safety standards
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Certification from a culinary school is a plus
