Job Description

The HR Generalist is a key member of the Human Resources team, providing hands-on HR support and guidance to managers and employees across a portfolio of operations within Aramark Canada. Reporting to the Senior HR Manager, with a dotted-line relationship to the local operational leadership team, this role serves as a trusted partner to the business, helping leaders navigate employee relations matters, talent initiatives, workplace policies, and day-to-day HR operations.

This is a highly visible, field-based role that requires a proactive and collaborative HR professional who enjoys building relationships, supporting operational leaders, and being actively involved in the business. The successful candidate will work closely with management and employees to foster a positive employee experience, support workforce initiatives, and ensure compliance with employment legislation, company policies, and best practices.

The role is primarily focused on supporting one of Aramark Canada's largest and most strategic higher education accounts, while also providing occasional support to additional operations within the region as business needs require.

This is a hands-on, field-based position that requires a full-time on-site presence within the supported operations. Regular travel between locations is expected based on business needs. The successful candidate must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle.

Job Responsibilities

Employee Relations & HR Support

  • Act as a trusted advisor to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and employment-related matters.
  • Resolve general employee relations issues while ensuring fairness, consistency, and compliance with company policies and employment legislation.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to leaders on performance management, attendance management, conflict resolution, and workplace concerns.
  • Investigate employee complaints, concerns, and workplace issues originating from management, employees, employee hotlines, or other sources.
  • Conduct interviews and prepare documentation in accordance with investigation guidelines and company standards.
  • Develop recommendations, action plans, and follow-up activities to support effective issue resolution.

 

Recruitment & Workforce Support

  • Support with recruitment activities for hourly and salaried positions within the assigned portfolio.
  • Support managers with workforce planning and talent acquisition strategies to attract and retain top talent.
  • Identify creative sourcing opportunities and build relationships within local communities and talent networks.
  • Partner with operational leaders to support onboarding and successful integration of new employees.

 

Talent Development & Coaching

  • Partner with leaders to identify development opportunities and build high-performing teams.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to both frontline and salaried employees to support performance and career growth.
  • Support training initiatives, leadership development programs, and employee development activities.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and accountability.

 

Employee Engagement

  • Support and drive employee engagement initiatives that enhance workplace culture, retention, and overall employee experience.
  • Assist operational leaders in developing and implementing engagement action plans.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that supports employee well-being and operational success.

 

Leave Management & HR Administration

  • Coordinate leave of absence cases, including disability management, accommodation requests, and return-to-work processes.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation, company policies, and applicable practices related to leave administration.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation while managing highly confidential information.
  • Monitor HR dashboards and metrics to ensure timely completion of activities and service-level commitments.

 

Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in HR projects and regional initiatives as required.
  • Collaborate with Centres of Excellence, HR colleagues, and operational leaders to support business objectives.
  • Review and maintain HR-related resources, documentation, and internal tools.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Human Resources, Employee Relations, or a related HR discipline.
  • Experience supporting operations in a fast-paced, multi-site environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment or exposure to labour relations is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to influence and coach leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.

The pay range for this position is $60,000.00 - $70,000.00.
