Job Description
Do you love to cook? Are you passionate about creating experiences that leave a lasting impression? We are seeking a Cook 1 to join the celebrated Dal Food Services team at Dalhousie University in Halifax!
Job Responsibilities
- Trains and guides staff on job duties, standard food safety and sanitation procedures, cooking methods, etc.
- Cooks and prepares food following production guidelines and standardized recipes
- Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment
- Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items
- Safely uses all food utensils including knives
- Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc.
- Bakes, roasts, broils, steams, and uses a variety of cooking methods on meats, vegetables, and other foods
- Arranges, garnishes, and portions food following established guidelines
- Properly stores food by following food safety policies and procedures
- Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils
- Maintains excellent customer service with a positive attitude towards guests, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.
- Follows Aramark safety policies and procedures including food safety and sanitation
- Ensures security of company assets
Qualifications
- 5+ years culinary experience regardless of industry
- Experience with large quantity batch cooking required
- Journeyman or Red Seal Certification in the Cook trade or equivalent preferred
- Experience in leadership role, either individual contributor or people manager an asset
- Valid WHMIS and Food Safe (Basic or Advanced), First Aid Certification is an asset
- Knowledge of and commitment to upholding high standards of food safety and hygiene
- Additional certification may be required by work location
- Skilled in task prioritization and time management
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently supervised and unsupervised
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a genuine desire to provide outstanding customer service
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues to ensure smooth operations
This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The pay range for this position is $24.21 - $24.21.
