Job Responsibilities

•    Serves food and beverage to guests according to guests orders and/or banquet menu
•    Maintains knowledge of menu items and all other offerings
•    Maintains appearance and cleanliness of food service areas during event
•    Replenishes food and beverage product
•    Adheres to all alcohol service policies and safe drinking guidelines including checking guests’ identification
•    Provides excellent customer service, anticipating guests’ needs
•    Breaks down and cleans/sanitizes food service areas, workstations, and equipment
•    Maintains a positive demeanor towards guests, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.
•    Adheres to Aramark safety policies and procedures including proper food safety and sanitation
•    Ensures security of company assets

Qualifications

•    Previous experience as a server or in food service role preferred
•    Demonstrates excellent customer service skills
•    Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
•    Working knowledge of food safety principles and procedures
•    Must be able to obtain a food safety certification
•    Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

GENERAL POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Server works as part of the food and nutrition services team providing meal service to residents, guests, and staff while maintaining food safety standards and a home-like dining environment.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up and clean dining room and the private or residential event services managed by Aramark.
  • Serve meals and beverages according to resident preferences and dietary requirements.
  • Assist residents respectfully during meal times.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of dining and serving areas.
  • Follow food safety, infection control, and HACCP procedures.
  • Deliver meal trays and carts in a timely manner.
  • Participate in special functions and catering events.
  • Report equipment or resident concerns to management.
  • Use PPE and maintain workplace safety standards.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND SPECIFIC TRAINING:

  • Minimum schooling or formal training for a new person on the job:
  • Mandatory:
  • Ability to read and write English at Grade 12 level, know basic math skills and follow instruction.
  • Must successfully complete the required training program within the defined probationary period.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with residents, customers and co-workers.
  • Must have the manual dexterity required for handling equipment and supplies.
  • Must be flexible and adapt easily to changes in schedule, work assignments and environment.
  • Must be willing and capable of working in a fast paced environment.
  • Must provide clear criminal record check and Vulnerable Sector screen.
  • Must provide vaccination record for Covid-19 and annual flu including boosters.
  • Preferred: High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Provincial or other vocational or professional certification or degree:
  • Food Safety Certification preferred.
  • Previous experience required:
  • 2 years’ experience in healthcare, hospitality, or senior living environment preferred.
  • Special skills/training needed to perform job or operate equipment:
  • Tray service carts, beverage machines, dishwashers, steam tables, cleaning equipment, POS systems.

Concentrated, 'On the Job' learning time required for a new person with education as identified to achieve job competence: About 3 months.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent standing and walking throughout shift.
  • Moderate lifting up to 20 kg (45 lbs).
  • Heavy physical effort may include pushing meal carts and lifting trays.
  • Requires visual, listening, and mental concentration during meal service.

WORKING CONDITIONS OF JOB:

  • Exposure to heat, steam, cleaning chemicals, refrigeration and freezer temperatures.
  • Scheduled shifts may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Travel: None.
