Chef Manager | Long-Term Care | Calgary, Alberta
Calgary chefs: what if your next kitchen gave you the opportunity to lead, create, and make a difference every single day?
We're looking for an experienced Chef Manager to lead culinary operations at a long-term care community in Calgary.
This is an opportunity for a strong culinary leader who can manage a busy operation, develop a team, and consistently deliver great food, while recognizing that in long-term care, the dining experience is an important part of someone's home and daily life.
Our community provides 24-hour nursing and personal care, supported by an interdisciplinary care team focused on enhancing resident well-being. This is a culinary leadership role where quality, consistency, safety, and genuine hospitality all matter.
What You'll Do
As Chef Manager, you'll lead the day-to-day culinary operation and help set the standard for the resident dining experience. You'll:
• Lead, coach, and develop the culinary and food service team
• Oversee daily food production and be comfortable stepping into the kitchen when needed
• Maintain high standards for food quality, flavour, presentation, cleanliness, and food safety
• Partner closely with the Dietitian and care team to support dietary, texture-modified, and therapeutic needs
• Bring creativity and variety to menus while balancing resident preferences and nutritional requirements
• Manage food costs, ordering, inventory, and waste
• Coordinate scheduling, workflow, and daily kitchen operations
• Maintain strong food safety, HACCP, and regulatory compliance standards
• Support catering, special events, and other culinary initiatives
• Build positive relationships with residents, families, and team members
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the dining experience and overall resident satisfaction
What We're Looking For
We'd love to meet culinary leaders who bring:
• 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience within a kitchen or food service operation
• Strong culinary skills and the confidence to lead a busy, high-volume operation
• A genuine passion for coaching and developing people
• Strong organization, communication, and operational skills
• Knowledge of food safety and safe food-handling practices
• Experience in healthcare, seniors living, long-term care, hospitality, or institutional food service is strongly valued
• A diploma in Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Food & Nutrition, Management, or a related field is preferred
• Food Safety certification is an asset
• Culinary certification is an asset, but not required
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
You Don't Need a Long-Term Care Background to Make an Impact Here
If you've built your culinary career in a restaurant, hotel, resort, catering operation, healthcare setting, or other high-volume kitchen, don't rule yourself out because you haven't worked in long-term care before.
We're interested in chefs who know how to lead people, run a strong kitchen, and deliver consistently great food.
What makes this environment different is the purpose behind it. Residents aren't simply visiting for a meal. This is their home. Food brings familiarity, enjoyment, comfort, and connection to their day, and the Chef Manager has an opportunity to shape that experience.
If you're ready to take your culinary leadership somewhere it can have a meaningful impact, we'd love to hear from you.
This position includes physical requirements such as extended periods of standing and walking, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling. Uniforms and personal protective equipment may also be required.
