Job Description

The Chef Manager works as part of a management team in food and nutrition services performing tasks such as training, coaching and administrative duties for employees and residents of Age Care Harmony Court. This role combines operational management with hands-on culinary expertise, ensuring high standards of service delivery, food safety, and resident satisfaction. The successful candidate will lead and support a multidisciplinary team, contribute to quality assurance initiatives, and actively participate in resident engagement and special events.

Job Responsibilities

•    Schedules and assigns daily work assignments to a food service team and oversees the completion of tasks. 
•    Maintain and supervise kitchen team to ensure all staff are following standards and procedures, taking responsibility, as the Chef Manager for kitchen operations. 
•    Completes weekly safety observation of food service staff to ensure a safe work environment and proper safety protocols are being followed.  
•    When needed assists in kitchen to prepare food items in a timely fashion following production time schedules, prescribed recipes, procedures, and guidelines. Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items as per daily recipe requirements. Bakes, roasts, broils, steams, and uses a variety of cooking methods on meat, vegetables, and other items. 
•    Assists with updated production schedules, recipes and applicable procedures and guidelines.  
•    Assists in ensuring all logs are completed and filled in accurately (HACCP, sanitizer, dish machine temperature, waste, pre-use inspection, thermometer calibration, fridge temperature, freezer temperature, substitution log, pest log, and maintenance logs). 
•    Daily auditing of cleanliness in food service areas as per SOPs to ensure cleaning schedules are being followed and follow up with staff when cleaning is not up to standard.
•    Complete monthly inventory according to guidelines and regularly updates inventory in accounting software. 
•    Enters all staff schedules into Kronos one week in advance.
•    Attends and /or leads department meetings and client meetings as assigned, i.e., Food Forum.
•    Complete ordering for Sysco, Agropur, Wonderbread, and Centennial as needed.
•    Liaison with vendors when delivery issues arise, to find a proper solution.
•    Ensures rigorous receiving standards are in place and followed.
•    Enter invoices into accounting software daily as needed. 
•    Completes food service rounding’s with residents in dining rooms on a weekly basis as per schedule.
•    Displays polite, spirit-of-service attitude towards customers and co-workers. Maintains friendly, efficient, and responsive attitude toward client and client’s customers/residents while performing job duties.
•    Assist in scheduling, monitoring staff, auditing and other duties related to housekeeping and laundry.
•    Acts as interim manager while SS Manager is away or on vacation and completes all duties as assigned by manager. 

 

Qualifications

•    Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
•    Minimum 2-year College Diploma with a Management, Hotel/Restaurant or Dietetic specialty.
•    Food Safe Certification an asset.  
•    Cooking certification not required but an asset.
•    2 to 3 years’ experience in Management or Supervision in a Healthcare environment.
•    Must have the ability to communicate effectively with residents, customers, and co-workers.
•    Word, Office and Excel knowledge is required
•    Must have the physical capabilities required for light lifting and constant walking.
•    Incumbent must be flexible and adapt easily to changes in schedule, work assignments and environment.  
•    Must provide clear Criminal Record Check

Salary Range (based on experience): $51,500-$63,860 CAD/ year
